Dezeen Showroom: designer Maja Ganszyniec and Swedish brand Abstracta have created a soft seating range called Akunok, intended to provide acoustic seclusion in open environments.
The Akunok seating was created by Abstracta to tackle two contemporary workplace challenges: improving soundscapes for increased well-being and creating quiet spaces for focused work.
The approach taken is one that involves creating an “acoustic nook” – a phrase that inspired the collection’s name. This allows people to maintain a connection to their surroundings rather than being fully separated in a pod or booth.
The minimalist design borrows from Japanese architectural principles, and the composition of corners and voids helps to trap sound as much as the soft materials.
“Akunok is a composition of flat surfaces,” said designer Maja Ganszyniec. “Nothing is completely closed. Its intriguing design language stems from an ambitious objective to radically enhance soundscapes.”
The Akunok seating comes in one- and two-seater models, as well as a floor screen and two tables that are also available as part of the collection.
