A Dairy-Free Take on the Shamrock-Green Shake

The challenge? To make a non-dairy — but delicious — green take on the iconic shake that everyone loves this time of year. We all know it’s not hard to make a green smoothie. Add some spinach or kale, and bingo — you’ve gone green.

But I wanted this shake to be a little more fun. A little more rich, while still satisfying all of the food restrictions in our house. That’s what makes holidays special, right? Food memories are core memories.

Well this recipe knocked it out of the park. It’s tasty enough for the girls to have as a special treat, but balanced enough to feel like a nutritional powerhouse for Jules and me.

For the base I use vanilla flax milk, blended with spinach and fresh mint leaves. And in order for my kids to even touch it there can’t be a single green chunk left – so blend it really well. It’s all mixed with frozen avocado, frozen banana, and of course some almond-based vanilla ice cream for a delicious remake of a beloved classic that is no longer an option for some in our family.
