Dezeen Showroom: Big Glow is a translucent pendant lamp made from wool and bioplastic, designed by Dutch design firm Studio Truly Truly and Woolmark for Australian lighting brand Rakumba.
Studio Truly Truly created Big Glow to celebrate Australian design and materials, aiming to evoke the blazing Australian sun while providing a warm and comforting light.

Available in multiple rounded shapes, the translucent lamp shade is made from wool grown in Victoria combined with bioplastic, forming a compostable material with sound-absorbing qualities.
Big Glow was developed in close collaboration with textile fibre brand Woolmark – an established global authority on wool – which offered its technical knowledge of the material.

“Big Glow exemplifies how natural fibres such as wool can be integrated into modern interiors, reshaping perspectives of long-loved materials while enhancing functionality,” said John Roberts, managing director of Woolmark.
“This project is a shining example of promoting wool’s potential and natural benefits beyond traditional apparel textiles.”
The light will be launched at this year’s Milan Design Week in April as part of the Culture of Light exhibition, with preorders available on Rakumba’s website from 18 March.
