This year, the NYSCC celebrated 70 years of cosmetic science leadership with its 45th​ annual NYSCC Suppliers’ Day show, and the exhibition floor echoed with its theme of “Inspire. Innovate. Celebrate.”

The successful event saw a sold-out show floor of over 560 exhibitors and offered more and 100 hours of educational programming, covering a wide range of topics from Biotechnology in Beauty and Personal Care to the Future of the Cosmetic Industry and more.

CosmeticsDesign walked the show floor to discover some of this year’s hottest trends in cosmetics and personal care. Here are our three key takeaways from this year’s NYSCC Suppliers’ Day.

Evolving consumer preferences in product formats

As today’s beauty consumer becomes more discerning in their purchasing behaviors and preferences, they also become more dynamic. This year, it was clear from the show floor that from skincare to makeup, product formats are witnessing a transformation driven by consumer demands.

From sustainable packaging options and multifunctional products to customizable formulations, brands are adapting to cater to a diverse consumer base seeking both efficacy and sustainability in their beauty choices. Of particular interest is the influence consumer age demographic is playing in how many suppliers and manufacturers are formulating new ingredient releases. For example, this year’s show saw a marked increase in sustainably derived surfactants that produce less lather than traditional formulations – fitting into the oil cleansing trend currently popular with younger consumers.

Increased market agility across the beauty industry

Reinvigorated interest in fermented ingredients

The allure of natural and sustainable ingredients continues to captivate both consumers and industry professionals alike. At NYSCC Suppliers’ Day 2024, one trend that garnered significant attention was the resurgence of interest in fermented ingredients within the cosmetics and personal care sector. Renowned for their skincare benefits and efficacy, fermented ingredients have emerged as coveted assets in formulations aimed at addressing various skin concerns.

From probiotic-infused skincare to fermented botanical extracts, exhibitors showcased a plethora of products harnessing the power of fermentation to deliver transformative results. For example, Croda Inc. showcased its new comprehensive ceremide range, SphingoCare, which is natural derived using biofermentation to make lipids used in lotions, cosmetic, and hair care products, according to the company’s literature.

This renewed fascination with fermented ingredients underscores the industry’s commitment to leveraging nature’s bounty in pursuit of innovative and efficacious beauty solutions.
