Drake Maye injury update: Rookie QB leaves Patriots-Jets with head injury

With his performance last Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Drake Maye became the second quarterback in NFL history to throw for over 500 yards and 5 touchdowns over his first two NFL starts. The other? Dan Marino.

However, any dreams of Maye adding to those accolades Sunday against the New York Jets ended in the second quarter.

The rookie quarterback was taken to the locker room to be evaluated for a head injury and was initially listed as questionable to return. Shortly after that announcement, reports emerged on the CBS Sports broadcast that Maye was being evaluated for a concussion.

The injury appeared to come on this scramble from Maye, where he was hit on the back of his head as he slid:

A penalty was not called on the play.

At halftime, New England head coach Jerod Mayo told CBS that the rookie quarterback was out for the rest of the game:

Maye did guide the Patriots into the end zone during his time in the game, scoring in this touchdown run to give New England an early 7-0 lead over the visiting Jets:

However, if they are to beat their rivals today, they will need a big performance from Jacoby Brissett, who entered the game in place of the injured rookie.
